Monthly Missions: September

Each month we focus on practical ways to share the love of God with others in practical ways to both a local and a global population. If you desire to support or contribute to one of the monthly missions, click the “Donate” tab and as you follow the prompts you’ll be able to designate your gift to a particular monthly mission.

Family Promise of the Jersey Shore helps local communities coordinate their compassion to address the root causes of family homelessness. They address the issue holistically, providing prevention services before families reach crisis, shelter and individual needs based programming when they become homeless, and stabilization programs once they have secured housing to ensure they remain independent.

LBI Churches invites homeless guests into the Terrace Campus for eight weeks during the year for hospitality. During those weeks we also ask the congregation for extra support in the way of gift cards, bed set-up and break-down, and linen washing. All of your efforts and gifts are appreciated.

We will be welcoming guests from Family Promise for a two-week stay beginning on Sunday, September 14th. If you’d like to lend a hand with the bedroom setup or offering grocery gift card donations to cover the purchase of their dinners, please contact lbichurches@gmail.com.

The Kiwanis of LBI is once again collecting new socks from June 30 – December 3. This is their 10th year of collecting and donating these socks to the homeless, veterans, abused women, children, active military, various charities, natural disaster sites or wherever they see a need for a new pair of socks. This heartfelt
mission on behalf of the Kiwanis to provide socks for those less fortunate helps give a person dignity, warmth, and helps prevent bacteria and foot ailments. You may drop off socks at either church campus or at any worship service.

Samaritan’s Purse sends gift-filled Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes to children in need around the world together with the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. If you would like to fill a shoebox for our annual October mission, please pick up, fill and return it to worship or to either church. Empty shoe boxes will be available at the bayside services, and  the 10:00 a.m. service at Kynett and both church campus offices (Tues.-Thurs. 9am-1pm).

Ideas for filling with items such as small toys, school supplies and some hygiene items are inside each box along with a label. Please return the filled boxes to either church campus by November 9 or our bayside service by September 28th. The filled shoeboxes will be delivered to a child, somewhere around the world, who may be receiving their first introduction to the love of God and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Many of our visitors enjoy doing this while on the island during the summer because they may not be here in October. This can be an enjoyable activity for parents and grandparents to do with children.

If you are able, Samaritan’s Purse is asking for an additional $10 donation for the cost of shipping for each box (please make the checks payable to LBI Churches and place it in the box and we will send one check to Samaritan Purse for the shipping). If you choose not to fill a shoebox, cash donations are welcomed also.
